[01] INTRODUCTION

With the increasing adoption of drone technology across industries, understanding and complying with Malaysia's aviation and geospatial regulations is crucial. This hands-on course provides participants with practical guidance on applying for key drone-related permits from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and the Department of Survey and Mapping Malaysia (JUPEM). Participants will also learn how to prepare risk assessments, plan flights using Google Earth, and compile complete documentation packages to ensure permit approval.

• Identify when and how to apply for CAAM and JUPEM permits

AZRIZAL ARSHAD

HRD Corp Accredited Trainer, Drone Specialist

With over two decades of experience in the aviation and aerospace industry, this trainer brings a wealth of practical and technical expertise to drone operations and aerial mapping. His background includes specialization in aircraft systems, quality assurance, and flight safety, with a strong foundation in ATA 32 (Landing Gear Systems). Over the years, he has transitioned into the drone technology space, developing and delivering structured training programs aligned with national certification standards under JPK and CAAM.

As Head of the Drone Department and a certified vocational trainer, he has played a pivotal role in designing drone training syllabi and managing hands-on flight operations, equipment, and mission planning. He is especially proficient in sensor selection, data collection techniques, and applying drone technology to real-world sectors such as agriculture, inspection, cinematic filming, and search and rescue. To date, he has completed over 180 flight hours across 40 missions in countries including Poland, Australia, South Africa, and South America.

His expertise extends beyond flying to include mission planning using autonomous software, safety procedures, and post-flight data processing. He has worked with local drone communities and government agencies, such as the Department of Agriculture, to implement drone-based solutions for pest control and crop monitoring using sensors and ultrasonic technology. His goal is to bridge the gap between aviation-grade precision and drone-based practical applications by equipping participants with both technical competency and situational awareness.

As an assertive and approachable instructor, he is known for his structured yet adaptable teaching style, his ability to explain complex systems in a relatable way, and his commitment to producing confident, safety-conscious drone operators ready for industrial or commercial deployment.

 

NIK AHMAD SALLEHUDDIN

HRD Corp Accredited Trainer, Drone Specialist

Nik Ahmad Sallehuddin is a certified and experienced drone trainer with a strong foundation in both technical instruction and hands-on aerial operations. With certifications from Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran (JPK) in drone piloting and mission command, as well as a Remote Pilot Certificate of Competency (RCoC), he brings both regulatory awareness and real-world flight proficiency to his training sessions.

As an experienced senior drone trainer, he provides instruction on flight theory, drone assembly, mission execution, emergency protocols, and data processing. Prior to this, he was actively involved in delivering field-based drone training at a drone academy, where he trained participants in drone maintenance, standard operating procedures, and post-flight data verification. His instruction style combines technical clarity with practical applications, ensuring trainees gain confidence in both theoretical and field operations.

Nik Ahmad's academic background includes a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management and a Diploma in Mechatronic Engineering. This combination of technical acumen and people-oriented communication equips him to effectively engage trainees from various backgrounds.

In addition to his drone credentials, he is also certified in Safety Management Systems and Vocational Training Operations (VTO), allowing him to structure training programs in accordance with national competency standards. He is known for his detail-oriented instruction, proactive attitude, and strong communication skills—making him a trusted facilitator for drone programs.
